Sharon Mitchell, Cloth Doll Artist, 2017
Creating a 3D figure in cloth helps express identity, values, and curious interests, all of which includes writing, drawing, sewing, tutoring, and Cloth Doll pattern design.
Self-taught after two workshops in 1990, one online and one with Jill Maas in NZ, to develop basic skills, what began as grief therapy, quickly developed into the passion for Cloth Doll Artistry that meets my creative needs in a life-giving way.
Website, blog, workshops, social media, are all connections with other cloth doll-makers, designers, and collectors internationally.
Designing to express attitudes of character or stance, and often inspired by the play-on-word or idea, I have a thorough enjoyment of the process. Unattached to the finished work, I am driven by resolving the doll problem, and want to pass on the knowledge I have gained through patterns and workshops.
