Artist / Printmaker
I am a Kakanui based printmaker I was born in Naseby, Central Otago then moved to the Catlins, before going to high school, then Art school in Dunedin, so I really feel my roots are here in Otago.
I studied a B.F.A in painting, but my heart was always drawn to printmaking. I love the surprising, expressive and painterly qualities of monotypes and the boldness of lino and woodcut.
One day on a trip to Dunedin I spotted an old clothing mangle in the window of a Hampden antique store and knew instantly of its potential as a printmaking press. At the time my children were still babies, and I began to sneak the odd hour or two out in the studio whilst they napped, experimenting with the processes I learned at art school, years before.
I have exhibited in many group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Recently I won a merit award in the Cleveland art awards, a prestigious national award exhibition.
I also teach adult art classes for people struggling with mental wellbeing or feeling isolated, which I find very fulfilling. It brings me joy to share my passion for art with others.
I am inspired by nature, gardening, people, travel and honestly just about everything. Living in Kakanui for the past 10 years and raising my family has allowed me to develop my printing skills and follow my passion of printmaking.
