Glass Artist (Robyn Douglas Art)
I enjoyed drawing and painting from an early age. In my teens I had lessons on Saturday mornings in drawing, lino cutting, and watercolour painting and later I began painting in oils, and started to explore the exciting world of contemporary art.
I have always loved glass and took classes while living in Hamilton and then in Oamaru when we shifted here, eventually buying my own kiln.
The glass I use is Bullseye glass from USA. I import the sheets, cut and place them to make the design.
Lately I have begun using coloured glass powder which I find more versatile.
Each piece is fired twice - once at 800 degrees to fuse the pieces together, and then again to melt into a shape.
I will continue to try new ideas and techniques while I can - so much to explore and so little time!!
